A Glacier in the Mts. this Is a glacier that is on land.
Glaciers And Geography!@?!

Starting Facts.

Glaciers erode land that it flows over..

Glacier - Huge mass of ice on or near land. On water as well.

Glaciers cannot form unless they are above a snowline.

10% of The earth's land surface is covered by glaciers.

Glaciers are the largest fresh water reservoir on the Earth's surface.

There are over 100,000 glaciers in Alaska alone. Most aren't even named!!

96.6% of Glaciers are in the regions of Greenland or Antarctica.

An arched glacier that has a crack in it. Its pretty amazing though.

How Do Glaciers Change Geography, Surfaces and even the earth itself?

Glaciers push away all that is under it and all around it, (except for the Ice itself, otherwise there wouldn't be glaciers.) There are a lot of different ways glaciers change geography: Freeze land (sometimes) Form beautiful landscapes, keep water from flooding (freezes water inside). Those are a few for starters, ways that glaciers change the earth include: Make changes to flow in water, it allows people to drink water that usually couldn't drink water, (as a good thing) and can cause issues for people that live near them. Glaciers change surfaces of the earth by freezing the land, preserving "Fresh Water" water that humans drink and need. If we destroy these glaciers we may run out of a source we could use to keep our civilization alive. If we don't help other countries, civilizations and even eachother, we can stop future wars, plots, and quarrels.

As glaciers melt, they release fresh water. That sounds like a good thing, and it would be if we could send the water to the places that need it.
Unfortunately, almost all the water goes into the oceans and that's where the problems start. An obvious result of more water in the oceans is that sea levels rise.
That's not good news for low lying land and for people living on lowland coasts. There are already scientists who believe than many cities will be threatened by flooding in the next 100 years.

This Glacier looks as if the surronding Ice has melted away and that this is floating at sea.

Basically if we keep up what we are doing, Using all our coal, oil, etc. The glaciers are gonna melt and start going
faster, (moving). Eroding Land, Increasing the rate of which glaciers melt and possibly making the effects irreversible.
